That night the old man died
I was still cutting my teeth as a child.
They told me "son, this is how it goes"
"but it's not how it’s supposed to be”
There goes a man with the stains of
blood and sand
broke his back planting flags in the oil land
ten years under foreign sun
is a life not yet begun
cause open mouths and empty stomachs
still had to be fed
And a man with war on his side, isn’t enough
until he comes home dead.
no matter how hard we try
the things we want still pass us by
happiness is just a lie
they said
"it's real when shared"
but we got no one
no one’s there.
looking back now, all I see
is all the life he didn’t want to live,
is all the things he didn’t want to be
are all those who swore not to leave
is the man that I still grieve.
And if take a look at me
behind these tired eyes
is that kind of person
I never thought I could be
and even if that grey old man
is now so far away
I still lie beside him
one in sin, the other in the grave.
I generally appreciate the album by album move away from hardcore towards extreme metal. Yet for me personally, this is where the balance is perfect. Kind of like Metallica's Ride the Lightning: subsequent albums were more sophisticated and complex, yet less intense, too. Great to come back to, again and again. jornfin
I'm sorry I missed out on this band 'til now. Landscapes sound excellent, a must for any fan of UKHC in the first decade of the century. I'd put them on a playlist with early Gallows, Alexisonfire, Comeback Kid, Dead Swans, Lay It On The Line, Mercury League and HHH. Burning Flag Designs
