So she lets her dirty wings unfold
we know what it’s like to feel unclean.
The yesterdays might be sterile
but the tomorrows rust
like ancient thrones left in the rain.
I’m trying to climb ivory gates
I’m still trying but I’m way too late.
The times we said
‘love you to death’
we were as young as our words
miles away but still so close
we sing each other to sleep
with the rhythm of our lies
out of tune but still tongue deep
in the middle of a sharp tooth lullaby.
And I can sleep you off
and I can let you go
we swear to god
"me and you means forever"
but that forever means nothing
if it means me and you
the time we said
"miss you like hell"
we were as old as our words
in the same bed but still alone
we sing each other to sleep
with the rhythm of our lies
out of tune but still tongue deep
in a sharp tooth lullaby.
I’m trying to climb ivory gates
I’m still trying but I’m way too late.
and I can sleep you off
in someone else’s bed
And I can let you go
to someone else’s arms
And I can sleep you off
in someone else’s legs
and I can let you go
to someone else’s heart.
Where are all the friendly faces
now that I need you more than ever
when ungrateful youth
make us pay the price of our age
the ones that smile as they sink
Searching between a thousand lines
the joy they never had
forgetting they’re still alive
the ones who swore to God
“me and you means forever”
but that forever means nothing
if it means me and you.
so just let me go
cut out the pictures of my smiles
You’re the reason why
the only hand I hold is mine.
I generally appreciate the album by album move away from hardcore towards extreme metal. Yet for me personally, this is where the balance is perfect. Kind of like Metallica's Ride the Lightning: subsequent albums were more sophisticated and complex, yet less intense, too. Great to come back to, again and again. jornfin
I'm sorry I missed out on this band 'til now. Landscapes sound excellent, a must for any fan of UKHC in the first decade of the century. I'd put them on a playlist with early Gallows, Alexisonfire, Comeback Kid, Dead Swans, Lay It On The Line, Mercury League and HHH. Burning Flag Designs
